Setting up your VPN under Windows 8

Setting up PublicVPN access under Windows 8 is simple. The following instructions go step–by–step through the creation process.


Make sure your system is up–to–date

Be sure that you run Windows Update before setting up your VPN connection.

Log into Windows as normal. You should see the normal Windows tiles


Type the letters "VPN". You should see a screen like the one below. Click Settings.

Click "Set up a virtual private network (VPN) connection.

You should see the "Create a VPN connection" screen.

In the "Internet Address" box, type ''

In the "Destination Name" box, type "PublicVPN L2TP IPsec." Your screen should look like the one below.

When you're done with typing, click the "Create" button. You should see the "Networks" list in the right side pane.

Right-click on the "PublicVPN L2TP IPsec" entry and select "View Connection Properties" from the menu. You will see this screen:

Now click the security tab, and click the "Advanced settings" button.

The "Advanced Properties" screen pops up. Type '' (without the quotes) into the text box. Your screen should look like this:

Click OK once you're done.

Next, click on the "Allow these protocols" radio button. Click on the checkbox next to "Microsoft CHAP Version 2". Your screen should now look like this:

Now click the "Networking" tab.You shold see something like this screen:

Click the checkbox next to "Internet Protocol Version 6". The screen should now look like this:

Click on the line "Internet Protcol Version 4" and click the "Properties" button. Check the radio button next to 'Use the follwing DNS server addresses" and type in Your screen should look like this:

Now click "OK" and the next "OK" button.

You should see the list of network connections now. Click on the PublicVPN L2TP IPsec and click "Connect."

The first time you connect, Windows will ask you for your PublicVPN username and password. Enter the website username and password then click OK.


You’re finished! Click the ”OK” button to save your username and password and continue connecting to the VPN..
